The Gospel Broadcasting Network (GBN) can now be brought directly into your home using a Roku player.

WHAT IS GBN?

GBN is a satellite network broadcasting the “truth and nothing but the truth, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week…”

The work of GBN is overseen by the elders of the Highland Church of Christ in Dalton, Georgia.  The primary thrust of the network is:

  1. To establish in viewers of all ages a strong belief in the existence of God through a heavy concentration of Christian evidences,
  2. To establish in viewers the conviction that God has revealed Himself and His will to man through the Bible; and
  3. To encourage the proper response to God’s Word—obedience to the plan of salvation and adherence to the New Testament pattern of worship, work, and Christian living.*

GBN’s channel can be previewed on your computer by clicking HERE.

WHAT IS ROKU?

Roku is only 4.74 inches wide

Roku is a little box that allows you to instantly stream tons of entertainment on your TV. Watch movies and TV shows from NetflixHulu Plus or Amazon Instant Video, listen to music on Pandora, catch the latest ballgame, and more — it’s all available whenever you want it.**

No PC needed.

Roku connects to your high-speed Internet connection wirelessly.

No extra monthly bills.
Use your existing subscriptions (like Netflix or NHL), or enjoy free and on-demand content (like Pandora, Flickr, and Amazon Instant Video).  A Roku player starts as low as $59.99.

WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN?

For a small one-time fee, a family can have sound Biblical teaching in its home 24/7.  Think of how encouraging, for example, this device could be for a shut-in who is longing for true Biblical teaching!  The possibilities are endless!  It is my prayer that you will consider taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

I, myself, purchased a Roku Player last week and am currently bringing GBN into my living room.  I would be happy to help those who are interested in learning more about GBN & Roku.  If you have questions, please contact me.

This week has been a very difficult week for many people. The deaths of Brother and Sister House have stirred the hearts and emotions of all of us. There is always grief and sorrow with death, but those emotions are magnified when the death occurs suddenly without time of preparation.

At first glance, the situation presented appears to be a case of tragedy for those two servants of God whose lives were taken by another man. It might also appear to be a triumph for the devil in that there are now two fewer servants of God standing against him on this earth. It is on this viewpoint that many will dwell and some will even consider it to be a matter of reality, but it is not. In fact, the reality is the exact opposite.

Paul wrote, “According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Phi. 1:20-21). Paul recognized that the Lord would be magnified and glorified whether in life of death. Therefore, as long as he lived he would preach Christ, and when he died they would rejoice in Christ for the life he led.

This same principle applies beautifully to the lives of Brother and Sister House. The triumph is not in the hands of Satan, but in the hands of our brother and sister in Christ. First Corinthians 15:55-57 records triumphantly, “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Brother and Sister House have finally, and eternally, triumphed over this world and its devices.

On the other hand there is still tragedy to be seen. The tragedy is not with the victims of this crime, but with the instigator of these actions. His soul is at stake, and the tragedy is in the fact that, were he to die today, his soul would not be saved. He does not have the same hope and peace that our brother and sister enjoyed. Therefore, it should be our prayer that this individual will see the error of his deeds, recognize the need for a Savior, and be obedient to the word of the Lord.

This time is truly one of triumph and tragedy, but not in the way many would think. May we ever keep events in the greater perspective of eternity and not relegate them to purely physical applications.

Begun in 1967, and held the last Sunday in March through the following Thursday, the annual lectures feature dozens of faithful brethren as speakers. Each year, hundreds attend from many states and foreign countires to take part in this spiritual feast. Lectures are recorded on video and audio tapes and in a book of more than 900 pages.

The Behavior of Faith

Persons of Christian faith must behave in certain holy ways (cf. James 2:24). The 2011 MSOP Lectureship is dedicated to exploring the various biblical admonitions and exhortations to achieve the balanced Christian life. The series starts on March 27th (Sunday) and ends on March 31st (Thursday). Forty-seven speakers will bring their expertise and enthusiasm to this year’s effort.
